Bet of the Day 2/23: Louisville -2

My very first sports betting pick for the Vent is going to be the Louisville Cardinals (-2) against the Georgetown Hoyas at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. tonight.

To start, anyone who knows me, knows that I like betting on home underdogs. To be honest, at the start of this post I was strongly considering picking the Hoyas tonight. The Hoyas are coming off a tough, 6-point loss to Marquette at home on Saturday, and have to be hungry for a big win. As they watch their season slip deeper and deeper into the ranks of "NIT-bound" teams, tonight's game against the Cardinals could be a last-ditch effort toward making any sort of late season rebound going into the Big East tournament. After consulting my friend, and Big East basketball fanatic Andrew Z., my opinion changed completely.

Unfortunately for Georgetown, Louisville is good...very, very good. The line up is stacked with strong and talented athletes who have been hitting on all cylinders the entire season. Rick Pitino has players such as Terrence Williams, Earl Clark, and Preston Knowles consistently leading the Cardinal's potent offensive attack. The team is 4-1 in it's past 5 games, but most impressive is it's 6-1 road record in the Big East this season. The cherry on top of the sundae is that Louisville will be looking for revenge after losing a heart breaker, 55-52 in D.C. last year.

I can see this match up being relatively close through at least the first half, if not midway through the second. In the end I just don't think Georgetown has enough talent to stick with this impressive Louisville side. Although I'm completely going against my sports betting beliefs, look for a comfortable cover of the spread for the Cards tonight.

Prediction: 76-68 Louisville.
