Although due to start in tomorrow's spring training game, the Mets pulled Johan Santana due to what is being called a stiff elbow. Adam Rubin of the DN writes...Santana said he felt "a little stiff" while throwing a bullpen session Wednesday, and chose after consulting with pitching coach Dan Warthen to skip a morning game against Italy on Friday. Santana doesn't plan on doing any throwing tomorrow. He plans to do a light bullpen or something equivalent Sunday in preparating for the start two days later.
As noted, the injury is not considered serious by any means. Apparently Santana experiences this kind of thing annually. He believes the stiffness could be due to throwing more than usual to show the coaching staff that his knee is in good shape after surgery.
