The Baltimore Jets? Douglas Could Be Next

Pro Football Talk is reporting that free agent defensive lineman Marques Douglas, formerly of the Ravens, could be the Jets next signing.

Douglas is a versatile player, who would fit in nicely as a back up D-End for Gang Green.

He's also considered one of Rex Ryan's favorite players to coach, which is an added bonus.

A hard-working, blue-collar role player, Douglas has always been a personal favorite of Jets coach Rex Ryan, the former Ravens defensive coordinator.

It's obvious the Jets are purely focusing on defense in free agency. This to me, is a great thing. You need a stellar defense to be successful in the NFL, and the Jets have addressed just about every issue they had on that side of the ball last season. Corner, safety, and linebacker. Best of all, it was a unit that was already on the upswing, and we haven't even gotten to the draft yet. Add in a break out year from Vernon Gholston, with a new defensive scheme, and we could be watching a top 5-10 defense come September.

This 2009 Jets squad is going to closely resemble last year's Ravens, in my opinion. A great defense, a solid rushing attack, and a young, serviceable quarterback. Let's not forget that Baltimore had quite a successful 2008 that ended in a playoff run, with an average-at-best rookie passer. I'd have to imagine that Kellen Clemens or Brett Ratliff can put together a season that at the very, very least matches Flacco's numbers from last year.

While the front office has done a tremendous job solidifying the defense, come draft day it should be time to look toward improving the offensive side of the ball. Perhaps adding a wide receiver, as well as a running back and/or quarterback in the first few rounds would be a wise move...?

Jeremy Maclin? Percy Harvin? Knowshon Moreno? Beenie Wells? Mark Sanchez? Pat White? We'll start talking NFL Draft in the next few weeks, and I cannot wait.
