I read an interesting article in Newsday on my lunch break today, about Chris Duhon's body starting to break down and fatigue beginning to set in now that it's late in the season.Duhon has had a rough couple of weeks as far as stats go, and he's lost playing time because of it. He's been dealing with back issues for a few months now, and the Knicks had only 7 players on the roster for a good part of the season, so Duhon running out of gas at this point isn't terribly shocking.
"He could be tired or we wore him out," Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni said. "He's played through a lot of injuries and he didn't have a lot of help when we played with seven guys for a long time. So, yeah, it very easily could be that he's just not real sharp physically. And to be honest with you, he has to be sharp physically to be real good because he doesn't have an abundance of athleticism. So we probably wore him out a little bit, but we've got to overcome that."
After losing to the Bobcats and Nets in back to back nights this weekend the Knicks hopes of making a playoff run seem more and more diminished. What's worse is that they are losing to teams that they ultimately need to catch up to and pass in order to get into the 8th playoff spot.
Duhon hasn't been playing the best brand of basketball lately, but I still think he's better then a back-up point guard, which is what many in NY believe right now. It's understandable why his body might not be responding well, but it cannot become a liability on the court. This hasn't stopped him from going out and giving it his all every night which is something I can definitely respect.
Although the Knicks season could be coming to an end it has still been very productive and entertaining from a fan's point of view. Disappointing, but productive and entertaining at least. It's obvious that the organization is headed in the right direction, and I might argue that Duhon coming to New York was the start of that. He's brought the best out of players like David Lee and Nate Robinson who are having break-out seasons, and posted numbers you would expect from an average, or above average point guard.
The Knicks start a tough road trip this week, which could make or break their season.
