Derrick Ward Signs with Tampa Bay

Pro Football Talk is reporting that free agent running back Derrick Ward has signed a 4-year, $17m contract with the Tampa Bay Bucs. The contract includes $6m in guaranteed money, which is much less than he was hoping to get at the beginning of free agency. Ward and agent Drew Rosenhaus were looking for a 6-year deal in the $35m range.

Ward will take some carries away from Tampa's current starting back Earnest Graham, and also provide security for the oft-injured Cadillac Williams, who will miss the start of next season with a torn Patella.

This is a good signing for the Bucs, and Ward should provide an effective change of pace from the bruising style of Graham.
