The Mets released relief pitcher Duaner Sanchez this morning, and will have to only pay him about $275,000 off his current contract.Although relatively effective last season at times (5-1 record), Sanchez never seemed to return to his fierce 2006 form.
Ever since his car accident in 2007, Sanchez's velocity and confidence has been down. He used to pitch with a certain swagger which is no longer apparent, in my opinion.
I liked Sanchez on the mound to some degree, but this move will most likely open the bullpen door for youngster Bobby Parnell, who is having a great spring and who the Mets coaches are quite fond of.
