It's Official - Leonhard Signs a 3-Year Contract

Adam Schefter is reporting on NFL.com that the deal linking former Ravens safety Jim Leonhard to the Jets is now official.

Earlier this afternoon it was believed that Leonhard had a verbal agreement with New York, but that the Broncos had enterted the bidding late and the deal with the Jets wasn't in ink.

The report indicates that Leonhard has signed a 3-year contract, although the money involved in the deal isn't known at this time. Schefter thinks the Jets had to increase their offer slightly to keep Leonhard away from Denver.

Although I don't like hearing that the Jets had to "up their offer" to the 5'8" Leonhard in order to land him, he is an upgrade at safety and the price shouldn't be too high regardless. We'll be able to assess the move better once the numbers are out.

For now I'm happy with the signing, and glad to see another productive Raven coming to the Jets. Rex Ryan coordinated a defense ranked 2nd overall in the NFL last season in Baltimore, and was wise to bring two key players from that unit with him to New York.

In other news, the Jets interest in free agent corner Corey Ivy has subsided.
